Companies must provide masks and gloves
Following official declarations that employees of the public sector who have been placed in quarantine due to coronavirus will be absolved from their work responsibilities, a number of law professors said the sick leaves of private sector employees who have been quarantined due to coronavirus should be at the expense of the employers and shouldn’t be deducted from their leave balance, reports Al- Rai daily.
They insisted that the labor law obliges employers to ensure safe health environment for their employees and avoid any risks to their lives. The professors asserted that the health quarantine is a mandatory order in line with the state’s policy and the standards of international security.
In this regard, Professor of International Law in Kuwait University’s Faculty of Law Dr. Ali Hussein Al- Dousari said employers are committed to provide all the precautionary measures for the safety of their employees, and implement all methods necessary to fight coronavirus. He stressed that the employers must provide the employees with safety items such as face-masks and gloves.
Dr. Al-Dousari highlighted that the law exists to protect employees from the domination of the employers, adding that workers have the right to work in safe environment that provides all required guarantees and health safety. In addition, Professor of Administrative Law Ahmad Al-Farsi affirmed that the employees of the private sector are not responsible for the period they are placed in quarantine because this is a compulsory order by the state.
