Boubyan Bank emerges as CUP winners & KFH lifts Plate trophy
Boubyan Bank, efficient and athletic in the field and commandingly having an upper hand in all the games played, successfully lifted the prestigious ABK 7 A Side trophy sponsored by Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait and organized by Kuwait Cricket.
As many as 9 Banks to the likes of Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait, Ahli United Bank, National Bank of Kuwait, Boubyan Bank, Burgan Bank, Commercial Bank of Kuwait, Kuwait International Bank, Kuwait Finance House and Gulf Bank participated in this tournament which was a curtain raiser to the Kuwait Banks Club cricket tournaments being organized by Kuwait Cricket.
After the early round of knock out league matches, 4 teams namely Commercial Bank, Ahli United Bank, Boubyan & National Bank of Kuwait were placed in the CUP semifinal and the early round losers Kuwait International Bank, Burgan Bank, Gulf Bank, KFH & Al Ahli Bank to PLATE semifinal.
In the PLATE final Kuwait Finance House prevailed over the fighting Burgan Bank to lift the Plate Cup. Faraaz of KFH who played a stellar knock was declared Player of the Final.
In the CUP final against Ahli United Bank, Boubyan Bank played to their full potential and lifted the first cup of the new season. Their prolific scorer Aaamer Javed maintaining consistent form and scoring sufficiently fast with gifted timing played confidently, enabling Boubyan to notch up 92 runs in their allotted 5 overs. Hisham & Rifkhas played excellent cricket to give Aaamer the needed support.
As always in a shorter version of the game, stimulating great expectations, the ABK sponsored 7 A side tournament generated great excitement & turned out to be a great success as all the 9 participating teams had an opportunity to gather themselves, sharing their views and an occasional personal chat as players and officials laughingly gathered to have mouthwatering lunch.
Mr. Shiamak Soonawala, Chief Financial Officer of Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait presented the Winner & Runner Up trophies as well as individual gifts to Boubyan Bank team and Ahli United Bank teams, while Chief Internal Auditing Officer Mr. Balwant Bains handed over the Plate Winner & Runner Up trophies to KFH & Burgan bank teams. Mr. Asad Baig, Director General, Kuwait presented the Player of the match award to Faraaz & Aamer Javed.
Kuwait Umpiring panel did an excellent job in officiating the event in a professional manner as the crew headed by Riaz Choudhry, Imran Mustafa Haji, Naveen D’souza & Zahid Usman lived up to their reputation of being well versed in the art of on-field umpiring & scoring.
