KUWAIT NATIONAL CRICKET TEAM TO INCHEON ASIAN GAMES
The Kuwait National cricket team after a very successful tour to Malaysia is all set to launch their journey to Incheon, South Korea to participate in the Asian Games 2014. The Kuwait team comprising of only Kuwaiti Nationals will be adding a golden feather in the cap of Kuwait Cricket as they will be remembered as the first Arab country ever to participate in the Asian games.
Having only a handful of Kuwaiti Nationals to take up this noble game in the initial stages, the untiring effort of Mahmoud Bastaki, the enterprising Captain of Kuwait National team resulted in many to follow and practice cricket at Sulaibiya cricket ground. The young team did train hard in the scorching summer days and with the guidance and support and encouragement of Kuwait Cricket, the parent body of organizing cricket in Kuwait, the team is now prepared to take up the challenge of playing International cricket.
Apart from Mahmoud Bastaki, the longest serving Kuwaiti cricketer, who himself is an experienced and outstanding all-rounder, the team comprises of Abdul Rehman Al-Kandari a genuine fast bowler and a powerful striker of the ball whose fielding skills are as good as any of the international players. In Fahad Bastaki, Kuwait cricket has found an astute cricketer with a great game sense and will be the backbone of Kuwait’s batting line up. Another player to watch will be Tariq Beidas, a stylish left handed batsman and a willy bowler who can mesmerize batsmen with his flight and length. Moreover, Tariq Beidas is a qualified ACC trained Umpire, and most likely the first ever Arab umpire in the Middle East. The real player to watch this time will be Qallaf who has picked up the essence of the game so fast that his all-round skills will be a treat to watch at Incheon along with Al Otaibi who is in full practice and recently capture six wickets in an inning.
Kuwait Cricket team will play its first match against Nepal on September 27th and will clash with Maldives on September 29th.
The team will be headed by Emad Al-Jassam, Board member and Chairman of Council, Kuwait Cricket and assisted by Mohammed Habeeb. The Coach of the Kuwait team, Taher Khan has put up a great effort in training the new commers and has great confidence in the young team. The officials of the team are Gopakumar Udayabhanu as the physical trainer.
