‘Biometric Exit’ For Expats Mandatory
Citizens and expatriates leaving Kuwait will soon need to submit fingerprint data on a mandatory basis, following a directive from the Interior Ministry. (Source : Arabtimes)The new policy by the Interior Ministry will only include foreign workers and will not include Kuwaiti citizens, diplomats or judges, a source said.
The move is one of around 30 new procedures issued to employees at Kuwait International Airport. In January 2011, Kuwait began fingerprinting arrivals at its borders to identify alleged criminals or anyone who has changed their passport details in a bid to evade arrest.
Kuwait is home to around 2.2 million foreigners, making up two thirds of the total population. The expatriates are mainly unskilled Asian labourers working in the construction and service sectors, and domestic helpers, including drivers.
