Ministry deported 25,000 expats of 10 nationalities
The Interior Ministry last year deported 25,000 expatriates of 10 nationalities, reports Al-Qabas daily. A security source said 26,000 expatriates were referred to the Talha Prison in 2014, 25,000 of them were deported, 500 were released after they corrected their status and 500 are still in police custody.
The same source said two offices have been established to book air tickets for the deportees who are at the Talha prison at competitive prices to facilitate the procedures and reduce the burden on sponsors and deportees. The source revealed some embassies do not cooperate when it comes to issuing travel documents for their citizens in the event they do not have the passports and as a result the detainees are forced to spend long periods at the deportation center this is in addition to not bearing the travel costs if the sponsors fail to oblige.
The source added some detainees cannot be deported due to legal issues particularly those who are involved in financial issues.
