More parking spaces on Kuwaiti Road
A top officer said the roads committee concerned has reported of much rush on the major road. The RAK traffic department, in a bid to ease congestion on the arterial Kuwaiti road downtown, has added 60 more parking spaces, and promises to add more as per need.
A top officer said the roads committee concerned has reported of much rush on the major road most of the time based on surveys and visits to the area. “The only way out is adding additional parking spaces to curb random parking at prohibited and no-parking areas as reported by traffic patrols,” said Col Ahmed Al Naqbi, acting director-general of the traffic and patrols department, RAK Police.
The department of public works and services in RAK has been alerted about the hot spots there, he added. “Therefore, it has been decided to add 60 parking spaces.” However, more parking spaces shall be added to the busy road if needed to ensure traffic flow, he pointed out. The traffic engineering department has stringently banned haphazard parking mainly during holidays.
“The department has also proposed the installation of pedestrian crossings and addition of U-turns and parking spaces to put an end to the heavy traffic there and reduce road accidents, mainly run-over mishaps.” Col Naqbi said the roads committee has installed several signboards banning parking in these araes. “The committee has also reviewed the entries and exits of the road.”
